Frequently Asked Questions

What is Herbie?

Herbie is an online platform to make, revise, download and store estate planning documents such as a Will and Revocable Living Trust. Herbie is not a law firm - it is an online technology platform.

Can I make a Will and Trust with Herbie?

Yes. You can get started with making a Will on your own one time for free with Herbie. The document will be generated within the platform for you instantly. Depending on which subscription you choose, you may also be able to update your Will over time and also combine it with a Revocable Living Trust. After you complete just three basic steps about your family, assets and wishes, your documents will be instantly generated for you within the platform to download. See pricing plans here.

Are the documents compliant with state law?

The foundational components of the Will and Trust forms that are generated for each user through Herbie have been vetted by attorneys in every state in which Herbie is available. During this vetting process, the forms were approved by attorneys in each state for compliance with applicable state laws at the time of review. An attorney does not personally review your individual documents.

Is the Will actually free?

Yes. You can make a Will for free with Herbie. Depending on which subscription you choose, you may also be able to update your Will over time and also combine it with a Revocable Living Trust. After you complete just three basic steps about your family, assets and wishes, your documents will be instantly generated for you within the platform to download. See pricing plans here.

Does it really only take a couple minutes to make a Will with Herbie?

Yes. Users have reported being able to complete a Will in as little as 5 minutes. If you choose to make a Trust, users reported completing a Will and Trust in as little as 15 minutes. That being said, we recommend everyone go at their own pace in completing their plans - there's no rush, so take your time to get things right. In all cases, we save your progress as you go, so you can come back at any time and continue from where you left off.

Are documents valid when they're stored online?

Each state in the US has its own policy for what makes a valid Will or Trust. In general, Wills are required to be signed by hand, with witnesses that are present. Various states are passing laws that make electronic signing of Wills valid, but subject to very strict requirements. As of today, all documents prepared through Herbie can be downloaded, along with signing instructions that we provide so that you can sign and notarize your documents on your own. We do not provide for electronic signatures or electronic notarization within the platform.

Does a lawyer review my Will?

Herbie is an online platform and not a law firm. The foundational components of the Will and Trust forms that are generated for each user through Herbie have been created and vetted by attorneys, including in every state in which Herbie is available. That being said, an attorney does not personally review your individual documents.

Is my information secure?

Our platform is designed with the stringent confidentiality and compliance requirements of the financial and legal industries. All data is processed and stored using a secure, cloud-based infrastructure that supports end-to-end encryption, granular access controls and continuous monitoring. We utilize infrastructure hosted in environments that follow industry-recognized security best practices, ensuring user information is handled with the care and protections relied on by top financial institutions, corporations and law firms.
