Frequently Asked Questions

What is Herbie?

Herbie is an online platform to make, revise, download and store estate planning documents such as a Will and Revocable Living Trust. Herbie is not a law firm - it is an online technology platform that creates high quality estate plans for individuals based on their personal situations. Input your family structure, organize your assets, share important information with family and advisors, and instantly save and update your documents whenever needed.

Can I make a Will and Trust with Herbie?

Yes. You can make a Basic Will for free. The documents you make will be generated within the platform for you instantly. If you upgrade to Herbie One, you will also be able to update your Will over time and combine it with a Revocable Living Trust. After you complete just three basic steps with about your family, assets and wishes, your documents will be instantly generated for you within the platform to download. See pricing here.

Are the documents compliant with state law?

The foundational components of the Will and Trust forms that are generated for each user through Herbie have been vetted by attorneys in every state in which Herbie is available. During this vetting process, the forms were approved by attorneys in each state for compliance with applicable state laws at the time of review. An attorney does not personally review your individual documents.

Does it really only take a few minutes to make a Will with Herbie?

Yes. Users have reported being able to complete a Will in as little as 5 minutes. If you choose to make a Trust with Herbie One, users reported completing a Will and Trust in as little as 30 minutes. That being said, we recommend everyone go at their own pace in completing their plans - there's no rush, so take your time to get things right. In all cases, we save your progress as you go, so you can come back at any time and continue from where you left off.

Can I sign my Will electronically?

Each state in the US has its own policy for what makes a valid Will or Trust. In general, Wills are required to be signed by hand, with witnesses that are present. Various states are passing laws that make electronic signing of Wills valid, but subject to very strict requirements. As of today, all documents prepared through Herbie can be downloaded, along with signing instructions that we provide so that you can sign and notarize your documents on your own. We do not provide for electronic signatures or electronic notarization within the platform.

Does a lawyer review my Will?

Herbie is an online platform and not a law firm. The foundational components of the Will and Trust forms that are generated for each user through Herbie have been created and vetted by attorneys, including in every state in which Herbie is available. That being said, an attorney does not personally review your individual documents.
